Popular Musician Chile One Arrested for Alleged Theft of K6,530 from Radio Station
On May 30, 2024, in a shocking turn of events, Obed Chileshe, famously known as Chile One, was apprehended by the police on allegations of theft. The 30-year-old resident of Lusaka’s New Kasama area stands accused of embezzling K6,530 belonging to Radio Maria Yatsani Voice, a radio station situated in Lusaka.
The incident, which reportedly took place between April 27 and April 28, 2023, unfolded when Mr. Chileshe was contracted by the radio station to compose a jingle, valued at K6,500. Although the payment was made to his FNB account, he claimed that the funds did not reflect in his account. As a resolution, the station sent an additional K6,530 to his MTN mobile money number, under the agreement that he would reimburse the initial amount once it appeared in his FNB account.
Despite delivering the jingle as requested, Mr. Chileshe failed to repay the initial sum. Consequently, the matter was escalated to the police, resulting in his arrest around midday on May 30. At present, he remains in police custody pending formal charges.
Danny Mwale, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest, highlighting the ongoing investigation into the matter.
