Zambia Association of Musicians Takes Stand on Boomplay Issues

The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) has officially spoken out on the ongoing concerns surrounding Boomplay, one of Africa’s biggest music streaming platforms. ZAM revealed that many Zambian artists have not received their royalties from Boomplay for almost three years, leaving musicians frustrated and fans demanding answers. Prominent artists including Jemax, DJ Mzenga Man, Chile One, Chef 187, Shimasta and even Yo Maps are among those affected. Matters became more heated after a viral video of Yo Maps claimed he once had special access to a Boomplay portal where he could upload music for over 70 artists and possibly remove songs of those who disagreed with him. However, Yo Maps has strongly denied controlling other artists’ revenues, saying he too is waiting for his royalties from Boomplay.

ZAM stated that it has made several attempts to engage Boomplay, but the company has not given proper feedback. The association has promised that it will continue to push for transparency while working closely with key stakeholders such as ZICTA and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts. With its new leadership less than five months in office, ZAM assured members that it is committed to protecting artists’ rights, strengthening the music industry, and ensuring fair treatment in digital distribution. While investigations continue, ZAM has urged the public to keep supporting Zambian music as this helps uplift artists during difficult times.
